Sometimes a child needs to be raised by someone other than his/her biological parent. This burden will typically fall on the shoulders of a grandparent or another of the child’s relatives. In these situations breastfeeding is not an option and someone else is left to pay for the child’s needs.
Did you know one can of baby-formula costs $25!?! And that's the cheap stuff!!
At $25 per can, formula quickly becomes a heavy financial burden on a single mother or relative trying to raise a child. Through donations, the Samaritan Center is able to help these people.
On April 10th, the Jefferson City Samaritan Center and Team Red Wheel will be partnering to raise money for the Samaritan Center’s Baby Food program during the “24 Hours of Syllamo” endurance mountain bike race in Mountain View, Arkansas. Participants will complete as many laps of a punishing 10.5 mile course as possible during the 24 hour time period.
Here's how you can help:
You don’t have to ride a bike for 24 hours, but you can certainly help keep Team Red Wheel motivated to do so. In addition to a standard donation, we are providing you the opportunity to “adopt a racer”. To do so, pick one of our racers and pledge to donate $X to the baby-food program for every lap that racer completes.
For example: Luke Lamb has pledged to donate $2 per every lap Bob Jenkins completes. If Bob finishes 4 laps, (42 miles), Luke will donate $8 to the baby-food program. Our team consists of 3 other racers: Don Daly, Corey Case and Zack Lamb.
All who donate will be entered in a raffle to win a free mountain bike, courtesy of Red Wheel Bike Shop, in Jefferson City.
Absolutely all proceeds will go to the Samaritan Center. Please make all checks payable to the Jefferson City Samaritan Center.
Any questions, don’t hesitate to call Bob @ 573-619-3038 or simply respond in the comments section on our website @ http://www.biking-for-baby-food.blogspot.com/. Thanks for your support!! :)

Nice work, man! I was counting on more than 4 laps from you, though, Bob. If you get at least 7 laps, I'll bump it up to an even $25. Deal?
ReplyDeleteRight now my goal is to hit ten laps, and that is a very optimistic goal, in my opinion:)
ReplyDeleteDude, if you hit 10 freakin' laps, I'll bump it up to $50. I know it's not a lot of money to most, but I have 4 kids of my own to feed. Go for it, Bob.
ReplyDelete$50 From TTM and blog listing in TTM's site
ReplyDeleteGREAT Blog!!!! Hope you can bike as well as your blog
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, I spoke to Pete (Peat) Goode today and he has pledged to pay $20 per lap!!!
ReplyDeleteBoob, I'm in for $50. Would love to ride w/ you guys, but we have our Central Institute for the Deaf Read, Write and Run challenge that day. Good luck and have a blast....CockPunchor
ReplyDeleteI truly cannot believe the response this fundraiser is getting!! Right now it seems my biggest problem is keeping track of who is donating what sum of money. You people are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteTo make things a bit easier, Ben, (from the Samaritan Center), has provided a Paypal link in the upper left corner of the site. So now, those of you who would like to make a specific donation may do so at any time.
I plan on hustling the rest of you on raceday:)
Count me in for $5 bucks a lap -- what an awesome cause! You'll do great!! I'll be waiting to see your face in the paper on this one!
ReplyDelete***This just in... the Lovely Ms. Michelle Mertens is our latest donor with a cool $20 :)***
ReplyDeleteThat means means we've raised, (not counting the other racers), $175 before the starting whistle even blows.
That's good for 7 cans of baby food BEFORE RACEDAY!! We are kicking ass people, keep spreading the word!!
I have already commit verbally to sponsoring my Team Virtus teammates Zack and Bob each $2.50 a lap or $50 even (which ever is more). THe more you ride the more babies you feed...cool, get out there and get it done.
ReplyDeleteCasey
I just donated my money through that paypal link at the top. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteHey any final total? How'd ya do?
ReplyDeleteGREAT job BOB. What's the plans for next years race. What's the final money amount raised and Who is the lucky winner of the GREAT giveaway?
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning the homemade-baby-food-recipes.com website - we're so glad your little one is enjoying homemade baby food and that she's proving to be an adventurous eater :)

It’s great to read such topical writing on the Internet as I have been able to discover here. I agree with most of what is written here and I’ll be coming back to this site again.
