This was my first attempt at fundraising and I learned a lot from it. To the point, I learned a lot about people.

I learned about people like you, because if you're reading this page it's very likely you were a donor to this charity. Why did you do that? Ponder on that for a moment...why exactly did you hand me money to feed somebody else's kids? That was money that you worked for, you earned it to feed yourself and your kids, not some stranger you've never even met.

Why did you do that? Why did you give up that money?

I didn't pressure any of you, but you all donated. (Except maybe my ex-wife..I never heard back from her. I guess maybe she used the paypal link?) Anyway, one of my coworker's friends wrote a check for $50. I've never met that person. We got a paypal donation from a guy I've never even heard of...we don't even know how he heard about the fundraiser

Why did you people do that? There was no public recognition for donating, no glory.....nothing to benefit you in any way.

I know why you did it.

You gave away your money so you could sleep tonight knowing you were a part of the first Annual Biking For Baby Food fundraiser that collected over $1,ooo to help newborn children in need. That's right, I said over $1,000. As long as everyone sends in their pledges or uses the paypal link, this thing will have generated over $1,000.

Well, there's a smile.

I know I was smilin' when I walked into the Samaritan Center and handed over a PILE of cash and checks, and it's all because of you.

I can't say enough how extremely proud I am to call each of you my friend. This started as a way to stay athletically motivated and developed into something far greater. I learned a lot about you. You're great people, and now we have something to be proud of for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being a part of this.

Biking For Baby Food!!!

Sometimes a child needs to be raised by someone other than his/her biological parent. This burden will typically fall on the shoulders of a grandparent or another of the child’s relatives. In these situations breastfeeding is not an option and someone else is left to pay for the child’s needs.

Did you know one can of baby-formula costs $25!?! And that's the cheap stuff!!

At $25 per can, formula quickly becomes a heavy financial burden on a single mother or relative trying to raise a child. Through donations, the Samaritan Center is able to help these people.

On April 10th, the Jefferson City Samaritan Center and Team Red Wheel will be partnering to raise money for the Samaritan Center’s Baby Food program during the “24 Hours of Syllamo” endurance mountain bike race in Mountain View, Arkansas. Participants will complete as many laps of a punishing 10.5 mile course as possible during the 24 hour time period.

Here's how you can help:

You don’t have to ride a bike for 24 hours, but you can certainly help keep Team Red Wheel motivated to do so. In addition to a standard donation, we are providing you the opportunity to “adopt a racer”. To do so, pick one of our racers and pledge to donate $X to the baby-food program for every lap that racer completes.

For example: Luke Lamb has pledged to donate $2 per every lap Bob Jenkins completes. If Bob finishes 4 laps, (42 miles), Luke will donate $8 to the baby-food program. Our team consists of 3 other racers: Don Daly, Corey Case and Zack Lamb.

All who donate will be entered in a raffle to win a free mountain bike, courtesy of Red Wheel Bike Shop, in Jefferson City.

Absolutely all proceeds will go to the Samaritan Center. Please make all checks payable to the Jefferson City Samaritan Center.

Any questions, don’t hesitate to call Bob @ 573-619-3038 or simply respond in the comments section on our website @ http://www.biking-for-baby-food.blogspot.com/.
